Nightly Reading and Reading Checks
In compliance with Common Core, students will be assigned short readings several times a week. Many of these nightly readings will be accompanied by a reading check the following day. There will be three varieties of reading checks:
The majority of reading checks will be open note because most students comprehend what they read better when they’re writing down what they’ve learned as they go. Students are strongly encouraged to take notes on their readings.

BE ON TIME AND PREPARED TO LEARN!
Social Contract - Rules
Together, teacher and class, we will come up with a social contract, or a list of rules that everyone agrees upon. Students and myself will sign the contract once it’s completed and from that point on, it will be binding. That means that all students will be held accountable for upholding these commonly agreed upon rules. Students who break the contract will face the appropriate consequences (found in student handbook).
Mr. Sosebee’s 5 Questions
On the wall in the classroom there are 5 questions. These questions will be referred to as necessary for any student who is off-task.
Makeup Work Policy
Makeup work applies to approved absences (see attendance office.)
Late work is defined as any assignment turned in later than when I collect it. Any assignment turned in after this time is late, even if turned in on the same day.
Late work will be penalized 8 points each day it is late as follows:
1 day – highest grade possible is a 92
2 days– highest grade possible is an 84
3 days – highest grade possible is a 76
4 days – highest grade possible is a 68
5 or more days – highest grade possible is a 60
No Name Papers
Students tend to lose a great deal of credit because of papers turned in with no name. All no name papers will be placed on the white board with a 5 point deduction. Students are encouraged to check the no name papers frequently.
Cooperative Learning
Group Work: We often work in groups. This work requires you to pull your own weight and to cooperate (even with people you don’t like). Grades will be based on individual and/or group effort according to the nature of the assignment. Be a team player!
Class Participation:
It is important to be alert and involved in class. While our discussions may get lively, we must be respectful of our tone and words. Learn to disagree without being disagreeable. Your opinion counts!
